Beautiful and carefully tailored parkas are a hallmark of northern Native peoples. Made by women using a variety of furs, these parkas were ingeniously designed for survival, and often reflect Arctic people’s spiritual and practical relationships with the animal world. Wearing beautiful clothing showed respect for animals and was critical for success in Arctic hunting, for all living things have souls.
