Meryl McMaster: Second Self

June 12, 2015–December 11, 2015

New York, NY

Meryl McMaster (Plains Cree member of the Siksika Nation, British and Dutch) is an emerging artist from Ottawa, Ontario, whose work is comprised of visually stunning large-scale photography. This exhibition includes selections from “Second Self,” a playful but compelling series of portraits that engage with self-perception and constructed identity. This series was first exhibited in the United States in 2013 when McMaster was selected for RED: Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship, a biennial program of the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana, which honors contemporary Native American artists through an exhibition, catalog, art purchases, and cash prize.
