There's always something fun to do at the NMAI!
Be sure to stop by the Welcome Desk as you enter the museum. Ask for a schedule for activities and programs, and pick up the Family Guide to the museum's exhibits or download a copy in advance. Are you visiting the museum with young children? If so, you may particularly enjoy hands-on activities in the ImagiNATIONS Activity Center.
Upcoming Family Events
Activities are held every Saturday and Wednesday from 1 to 3 PM. Participants learn about the traditions behind each activity and try their hand at it. Families may then explore the museum's galleries to find examples of these Native traditions.
Discover some of the ingenious ways a cattail was used, compare techniques developed to build boats in the Americas, or feel the differences between styles of pottery. Look for one of the NMAI's Cultural Interpreters and these signature red carts.
Daily Highlights Tours
Join a Cultural Interpreter in the Potomac Atrium at 1:30 PM daily for a 60-minute tour of the museum. Tours are designed for a general audience.
