This redware bowl was fabricated by people of the eastern part of Marajó Island at the mouth of the Amazon. Marajó ceramics are typically decorated by excision, incision, modeling, and painting. This bowl with incised decoration was originally painted white. It was presumably used at feasts and different ritual gatherings and ceremonies.
